Inside Oakland Breakfast Forum - This Chamber of Commerce public policy program brings to our offices important speakers from the private and public sector to discuss issues that directly affect Oakland. It's free to Chamber members and runs from 8:30 to 10 a.m. This week, on Friday, Aug. 21, the Chamber welcomes a "Focus on Public Safety: Practical Tips for Individuals and Businesses," featuring Oakland Police Department personnel who will offer practical suggestions for being aware, recognizing problems, and responding appropriately. OPD's Neighborhood Services Supervisor Paul Brekke-Miesner will discuss personal safety tips for individuals. Also, Eddie Simlin, Police Services Technician, will explain how to make your business or home more secure by reinforcing areas easily targeted by would-be criminals. RSVP.

Chamber's 2009 Golf Classic & Academy - Monday, Aug. 31, Claremont Country Club. The tournament brings together some of the top business leaders in the city for lunch, a shot-gun start, and a subsequent awards reception.

Chamber Day with the A's - Monday, Sept. 21, Oakland Coliseum, when the Oakland A's face their division rivals, the Texas Rangers.For a ticket price of only $29, Chamber members can reserve a seat in the Coliseum's Home Run Plaza in left field and enjoy unlimited food and drink (water and soft drinks). Besides the opportunity to watch Major League baseball and cheer on the A's, the event will present an excellent opportunity to network with other local businesspeople in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. Take a look at Bay Bridge construction - from the water - On Friday, Sept. 25, Chamber members are invited to join us for a cruise on the bay featuring a close-up look at Bay Bridge construction from Will Kempton, the director of Caltrans. Besides learning the latest information, enjoy wine and hors d'oeuvre during the three-hour trip (5 to 8 p.m.). The cruise will cost $75 per person. The Chamber's Coliseum Commerce Center Advisory Committee (CCCAC) will now meet on the fourth Thursday of every month from 8:30 to 10 a.m. free of charge at the Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites - Oakland Airport at 77 Hegenberger Road.
