Letter from the President
Dear members and friends,

The Chamber - working for jobs and economic growth!

Efficient goods movement throughout the entire Northern California Region is crucial to continued job growth. On Friday of this week your Chamber (following months of planning and a hundred hours of work) will join with the city and the Port of Oakland to convene more than 370 regional leaders to focus on economic development and job creation at the MegaRegion Summit! Our objective is to collaborate and support the expansion and development of the Port of Oakland!

Reservation deadline is 3 p.m. today, Wednesday, March 24.

Clear skies ahead for Port of Oakland

According to Port of Oakland Executive Director Omar Benjamin, a speaker at Friday's MegaRegion Summit, the Port sees great opportunity in the country's improving economy. Read his comments here.

Governor signs jobs bill

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed three bills Monday evening just hours after the Legislature approved them, including two measures to create jobs and a change in the gas tax that the governor threatened to veto just last week. Two of the bills are tax breaks meant to spur job growth. One would extend and expand an existing tax break, allowing first-time buyers to claim $10,000 in tax credits on both new and existing homes. The other exempts sale taxes on the purchase of manufacturing equipment for green technology plants and is designed to attract environmentally friendly businesses to California. (San Francisco Chronicle)

God Bless America!

CHAMBER NOW SELLING FEDERAL AND STATE EMPLOYMENT POSTERS

The Chamber is now selling 2010 California and Federal Employment Posters. If you get one thing to protect your company in 2010 from liability and government fines, it should be the labor law poster (regular or laminated), which is required for all businesses. Whether you have one employee or 1,000 employees, you're required to post 16 state and federal notices. You can avoid fines in the thousands of dollars by purchasing a poster from the Chamber for only $23 (plus tax). We're also selling the 2010 HR Handbook for California Employers, which guides local employers through key human resource areas, and the California Labor Law Digest, a comprehensive reference for the latest California-specific and federal employment laws in plain language. For more information, contact Hank Masler at the Chamber at hmasler@oaklandchamber.com or at (510) 874-4808.
