Letter from the President
Dear members and friends,

Hiring subsidies for local employers

Our Chamber of Commerce is very enthusiastic about AC HIRE, the new Subsidized Employment Program offered by the Alameda County Social Services Agency and its various partner agencies. AC HIRE is designed to stimulate the local economy by providing a significant subsidy to employers who hire eligible low-income Alameda County residents.
Employers who hire an eligible job applicant will receive:
  • Reimbursement of 80 percent of the employee's wage until Sept. 30, 2010
  • Reimbursement of 80 percent of the employers' costs for Social Security, Medicare, State and Federal Unemployment Taxes until Sept. 30, 2010.
To place a job order or for further information, visit www.achire.org, call(510) 670-JOBS (5627) or email ACHIRE@acgov.org.

CHAMBER NOW SELLING FEDERAL AND STATE EMPLOYMENT POSTERS

The Chamber is now selling 2010 California and Federal Employment Posters. If you get one thing to protect your company in 2010 from liability and government fines, it should be the labor law poster (regular or laminated), which is required for all businesses. Whether you have one employee or 1,000 employees, you're required to post 16 state and federal notices. You can avoid fines in the thousands of dollars by purchasing a poster from the Chamber for only $23 (plus tax). We're also selling the 2010 HR Handbook for California Employers, which guides local employers through key human resource areas, and the California Labor Law Digest, a comprehensive reference for the latest California-specific and federal employment laws in plain language. For more information, contact Hank Masler at the Chamber at hmasler@oaklandchamber.com or at (510) 874-4808.
