Letter from the President
Dear members and friends,

Chamber staff believes that clearly defined strategy will ultimately assist in economic expansion and resolving issues in Oakland.

Accordingly your Chamber recommends the city:

- Recognize the need for basic services and establish a long range plan for cutting compensation packages to balance the budget, as have many of our Oakland businesses.

       (View the Chamber's 4/2/10 letter to Council here)

- Establish an understanding of what the loss of jobs in the Central Estuary area will do to negatively impact the city budget;

- Encourage a strategy of regional collaboration and cooperation for the development of the Oakland Army Base.

     (Learn more about the 2010 Northern California

     MegaRegion Summit)

- Engage a private business task force to work with the city to attract retail to the Broadway/Valdez and Upper Broadway areas;

- Accept business input to shape the city's proposed green business ordinance and energy and climate action plan.

Action is needed now! To offer input on these critical issues, please engage Chamber staff directly.

God Bless America!

Joseph Haraburda, President and CEO
