Public Safety

The Oakland Chamber is working hard to improve public safety and to actively manage the perception of crime in the community; we realize safety is the number one priority of our business community as well as the citizens of Oakland.
One of our primary focuses for dealing with Oakland’s crime problem is to recognize the close connection between integration of Oakland’s economic development and workforce development strategies and how those impact the ability of Oakland residents to connect positively with and benefit from the local and global economies. It is essential that Oakland’s economic growth is achieved in a way that provides more economic benefits to more of the community. The best way to spread the benefits of growth is to ensure that more Oakland residents can be productively employed and that a range of job and training opportunities exist for them to progress up the job and income ladder. This is one of the primary goals of the Oakland Partnership.
The Chamber is also actively supporting the City of Oakland, the Oakland Police Department and others to help implement a number of
community Task Force recommendations regarding community policing and other initiatives to improve public safety in Oakland.
