Over 300 participants enjoyed the Insiders Real Estate Market Update and the keynote presentation on world class logistics clusters from Dr. Yossi Sheffi of MIT. Building A Strong Economy: A Vision for 2020
On Wednesday, February 6, 2013 the Oakland Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce engaged 300+ business leaders, industry experts, technology innovators, entertainers, development planners, and community partners in a half-day economic development summit in Downtown Oakland. Event photos are online HERE.
Through a series of dynamic speakers and engaging panel discussions, event participants revisited the strong regional sectors of the East Bay economy identified by the Oakland Partnership work, and envisioned a plan that will result in a world class city by the year 2020.
Participants were treated to a keynote address from an expert in the field. The address included remarks by: Dr. Yossi Sheffi, Director of the MIT Transportation and Logistics Center. Mr. Sheffi reviewed what it takes to create a world class logistics cluster in the Bay Area by 2020. Dr. Sheffi shared his three decades of research in this area as well as his experiences in co-founding five successful supply chain companies since 1987. Conference participants also got a copy of his new book, Logistics Clusters: Delivering Value and Driving Growth (MIT 2012).

Insider Real Estate Update and Forecast for 2013
Participants were also treated to a market overview and trends briefing for the East Bay marketplace. Fourth quarter 2012 Market Data and predicted 2013 trends was presented for the office, industrial, retail, and housing sectors. The presentation by: Mike Moran, Managing Partner at Cassidy Turley was well recieved. It was standing room only for the session!

Concurrent Session Panel Discussions were then held in separate break out rooms at the convention center featuring industry leaders and well-informed moderators:
Health Care – This panel of major hospital administrators discussed both the expansion of care and observed changes in the sector with the passage of the Affordable Care Act. This esteemed group parsed what the next 8 years (that is until 2020) will bring both in terms of quality care and facility construction for each institution, especially as the first deadline for compliance approaches in 2014. Exploring Oakland’s Culinary and Entertainment Renaissance - Visit Oakland CEO Alison Best moderated a lively and diverse panel of the movers and shakers that are redefining Oakland’s culinary and entertainment scene. This panel talked about Oakland’s burgeoning entertainment cluster in the city. This special session, heard from the following speakers from the private (and public) sector:
